I'm turning twenty in five days and instead of wallowing in existential crises about the fact that I'll be in my twenties, I figured I'd make a list of the things I've learned after twenty years on this good old earth.

- Demale friendships are important. supporting and loving your fellow females instead of tearing them down is where it's at.
- If you don't want to do something, don't do it.
- Boys don't matter. to quote the holy carrie diaries: "you're gonna give up for a boy? the world is full of boys."
- Spending time alone is good.
- Work hard, get #paid.
- But don't sacrifice your mental health for school/work/uni. take days off, if you can, when you need them to recover and don't feel bad about it.
- Guilty pleasures don't exist. like the things you like without caring if it makes you cool or not. (looking at you, fourteen year old me. you knob.) it's okay to be uncool, don't lie about what you enjoy.
- and don't openly hate/bitch about the things you don't like. Firstly, no one cares. Secondly, it's exhausting.. and boring.
- Protect yourself from toxic people. you don't need that negative ish in your life.
- Be firm with your decisions. don't let people take advantage of you.
- Stay open. try your best not to judge and be gentle with people. know that everyone is going through or has been through hard times.
- Let yourself and your opinions change as you grow older and know that it's okay. you're not bound by who you were two years ago or two months ago or even two days ago.
- Take a lot of selfies. take selfies when you look hella good and maybe even when you look hella bad. they'll help you accept yourself and realise that you're pretty af.
- Value yourself and know that you have worth. don't lower your standards because someone tells you that you should.
- Cleaning your room really does clean up your mind. I never believed it, but it's true. trust me.
- Try not to live in the past. nostalgia is often a liar.
- Use your manners. always say please and thank you and never be an asshole to people who are serving you.
- Read. a lot.
- Don't be afraid to fail and learn.
- Sleep is good. Coffee is better.
